Selecting a Pianist

 When Quality is Paramount.

Sometimes, you want only the best.  When you’re getting married.  Or hosting friends.  Or responsible for a corporate function.  You want a pianist with talent and skill, yet also one who is proven in hundreds of performances.  Someone who can adapt music and style to a wide variety of ages and backgrounds.  Someone who you feel confident will deliver the level of quality that you deserve.

Steve’s talent and presence at our wedding made it even more spectacular than we could have ever imagined! He was accommodating with the selections, communicated clearly with us as we planned in the months prior to the event, and made such a perfect addition to our ceremony and reception. I cannot tell you how many of our guests commented on Steve’s performance and how unbelievably talented he was. Thank you, Steve, for not only your contribution musically, but also your kindness and flexibility! We HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Steve Shoaf for any event you may be considering!”

Steve was a key part in making our wedding day truly complete. His talent, professionalism, and flexibility was incredible. His huge variety of music made it very easy to select songs for our wedding and cocktail hour. His quick responses with emails and familiarity with The Peninsula Yacht Club eased my mind during the planning phases. Steve added an element of class and talent that helped to set the tone for our perfect wedding day. I would definitely recommend Steve to anyone who needs a professional, experienced, talented pianist at their event.”

I just wanted to send you a quick note letting you know how much we enjoyed your performance…. We were the smaller group in the lobby loving every minute! You brought my 94 year old mother to tears, remembering all the old classics and hearing them played so wonderfully one more time. It made me feel good to see how happy you made her, and everyone else! Thanks again. We really loved it all!

“ONE WORD- AMAZING!!! We had Steve play at the Graylyn Estate for our wedding reception and also during our cocktail hour. When the ceremony was over and we came in Steve had picked up right where the music left off!! It was brilliant and we got SO MANY compliments. I LOVED his selection of music, it was SO PERFECT!! It was kind of a last minute decision and I had some switch ups with Steve on the times but he was very flexible and accommodating and we couldn’t of been happier with our choice. THANK YOU STEVE FOR THE INCREDIBLE MOOD-SET IN THE ENTIRE ROOM EVERYONE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT!!!”

About Steve Shoaf

Starting piano lessons at the age of four, Steve quickly developed a knack for music.  During high school, he trained privately under the renowned NC School of the Arts music professor, Dr. Clifton Matthews.  He can play with printed music, but prefers to play by ear, utilizing his unique ability to play any song he’s heard, and easily taking requests, often on the spot.

His influences are the progressive rock of the 70’s like Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers, and the singer-songwriters of that era, including Elton John, Billy Joel, and Carole King.  He has performed with a variety of bands and duos along the East Coast, but likes to focus primarily on solo performances for wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, dinner parties, and other elegant events.
